The first part of the course was about gaining an understanding of the local situation. The task was to inventory and describe some geographical areas of the different places and to examine them as a habitat based on different thematic aspects.

The task also included identifying strengths and weaknesses related to each area and theme. The class was divided into six groups, each with responsibility for three geographical areas and one theme.
